Open to Summer 2027 Co-op

Hi, my name is

Thirshan Varatharajah

Electrical Engineering Student @ TMU | Co-op '29 · Toronto, Canada

I'm a an passionate about building systems that work.

systems online

I build systems that work. Embedded firmware, PCBs, power electronics — turning circuits and code into hardware you can trust.

Where I've worked

  1. Engineering Consultant (AI Infrastructure) @ CityOptima

    May 2026 — Present
    • Translate AI infrastructure predictions (roads, pipes, bridges deteriorating over time) into clear messaging for municipalities, consultants, and aviation partners.
    • Work directly with electrical engineering PhDs and TMU alumni across three applications: CityOptima (municipal assets), VisionOptima (road damage detection), and Runway (airport operations).
    • Turn complex engineering concepts — asset decay curves, sensor data, predictive modelling — into value propositions clients actually understand.
    • Apply data validation, system modelling, and trade-off analysis to real-world client messaging.
  2. Process Improvement Consultant @ 20/20 Mission

    Jun 2026 — Present
    • Map the end-to-end donor journey for a Canadian nonprofit redistributing secondhand eyeglasses to underserved communities in Canada, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Ghana.
    • Identify bottlenecks and drop-off points in the pipeline, then recommend low-cost, scalable fixes implemented by 100+ student volunteers across Canada.
    • Benchmark against similar organizations to identify best practices in donor experience and operational tracking.
  3. Circuitry Team Member @ Chem-E-Car - TMU

    Aug 2025 — Present
    • Design and program electronic systems that control a car powered and stopped entirely by chemical reactions.
    • Program microcontrollers to control braking systems. Calibrate sensors to detect chemical changes in real time. Analyze data to create accurate calibration graphs.
    • Work in a team of electrical, chemical, and mechanical engineers to make sure everything works together.
  4. External Relations Committee @ MUES

    Aug 2025 — Present
    • Represent and support 4,000+ engineering students at TMU, connecting them to external opportunities and events.
    • Serve on conference selection teams, plan and run Conference Awareness Night, and lead awareness initiatives.
    • Organize interschool collaborations, external sports and spirit activities, and outreach events.
  5. Engineering Outreach Intern @ Engineers of Tomorrow

    Jun 2025 — Present
    • Lead hands-on engineering activities for youth ages 4+ in monthly classroom sessions.
    • Design and deliver projects teaching circuits, structures, and simple machines.
    • Collaborate with educators and mentor teams to make engineering relatable and accessible.
  6. Strategy & Analytics Lead @ AYD Internet Marketing

    Apr 2026 — May 2026
    • Led market analysis for a digital agency evaluating three markets: Trades, SaaS/B2B, and Non-Profit.
    • Conducted research and contributed to SWOT analysis to assess risks, competitive advantages, and market dynamics.
    • Recommended owning the Trades niche — saying “no” to good options to commit to the best one.
    • Collaborated with a cross-functional team to deliver a client-ready Growth Strategy Report.
